Performance

Sverk for Windows · Updated October 27, 2026

The performance settings live in Settings → Performance (chrome://settings/performance). Below is what each of them does, what is on from the start, and what preloading pages means for privacy.

Memory Saver

When Memory Saver is on, Sverk frees the memory of tabs you have not opened for a while. The tab stays where it is, and when you go back to it, the page loads again. Memory Saver is off after installation.

With the switch on, three modes appear below it. They differ in how long a tab stays in the background before Sverk frees its memory; time the computer spends asleep does not count:

  • Moderate — 6 hours;
  • Balanced (recommended) — 4 hours, selected from the start;
  • Maximum — 2 hours.

Sverk leaves alone:

  • the tab open in a window right now, and pinned tabs;
  • tabs playing sound or a picture-in-picture video;
  • tabs using the camera, microphone or screen sharing;
  • tabs with a form you started filling in;
  • PDFs and sites on the Always keep these sites active list.

When the computer is almost out of memory, Sverk frees background tabs even with Memory Saver off.

Energy Saver

The Power section appears only on computers with a battery. Energy Saver limits background activity and visual effects, such as smooth scrolling and video frame rates, so the battery lasts longer.

Below the switch you choose when it turns on:

  • Turn on only when your battery is at 20% or lower — the setting from the start;
  • Turn on when your computer is unplugged.

While it is working, the Energy Saver is on icon shows to the right of the address bar. Turn off now in its window switches it off until you plug the computer in or restart Sverk.

Performance alerts and inactive tabs

Performance issue alerts are on from the start. If background tabs put a heavy load on the processor, a Performance issue alert button appears to the right of the address bar. Its window lists those tabs and offers to make them inactive, that is, to free their memory. Sverk offers this at most once an hour and three times a day.

Inactive tabs appearance is on from the start too: a tab whose memory was freed has a dotted circle around the site icon.

To see how much memory a tab uses in the card that appears when you hover over it, turn on Settings → Appearance → Show tab memory usage.

Preload pages

When Preload pages is on, as it is from the start, Sverk loads in advance the pages you are likely to open: the address suggested in the address bar when your past choices make it nearly certain, and links that a site itself asks to load in advance. It also connects to the servers of those pages ahead of time. When you go there, the page opens faster.

To the site, a preload is an ordinary request: it sees your IP address, and if cookies are allowed, Sverk uses them when preloading too. This happens even if you never open the page. If you do not want that, turn the switch off: Sverk then loads nothing in advance and connects to no site before you go to it.

Preloading has one mode in Sverk. Chrome also has “extended preloading”, in which pages are preloaded through Google servers when sites ask for it. That route needs a Google key Sverk does not have, so it does not work here and is not offered.

Always keep these sites active

Sverk never frees the memory of tabs with sites from this list — neither through Memory Saver nor when memory runs low. To add a site:

  1. Open Settings → Performance and, under Always keep these sites active, click Add.
  2. In the Add sites window, tick sites on the Add current sites tab, or type an address into Site on the Add sites manually tab.
  3. Click Add.

You can also do it from the page: when a tab comes back after Memory Saver, click Tab active again in the address bar, then Exclude site. To take a site off the list, use the ⋮ button next to it in the same section → Remove.
