Spell check
Sverk underlines misspelled words in text fields on websites and suggests corrections. Windows does the checking, on this computer. Below is which languages this works for, where to set it up, and why there is no need to turn on enhanced spell check in Sverk.
How it works
Words are checked by the spell checker built into Windows, and the text does not leave the computer. Corrections appear in the menu that opens when you right-click an underlined word.
Sverk checks a language only if Windows can check it. For other languages Chromium downloads dictionaries from Google's servers; in Sverk that download is off, and Sverk has no dictionary server of its own. So a language Windows cannot check is not checked in Sverk even when it is turned on in settings, and Sverk does not say so.
If your language is not checked, add it to the Windows languages, in Windows settings.
Languages and dictionary
Spell check is set up under Settings → Languages, in the Spell check section (chrome://settings/languages). The Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages switch turns it on and off altogether; it is on from the start.
The Use spell check for list holds the languages from Preferred languages further up the same page. To check one more language, add it with Add languages and turn it on in that list.
If Sverk marks a word you consider correct, add it to the dictionary: right-click it and choose Add to dictionary. Sverk keeps the word itself and adds it to the Windows dictionary too. Customize spell check opens the whole list, where words can be added and deleted.
Enhanced spell check
The right-click menu of a misspelled word has a Use enhanced spell check item. It opens the Turn on enhanced spell check window: Google's servers would do the checking, and the text you type would be sent to Google.
In Sverk this check does not work: Google's service needs a Google API key, Sverk has none, and Google refuses such requests. If you click Turn on anyway, text starts going to Google and the suggestions get no better. For Russian and most other languages it is the misspelled word, every time you open its menu; when the main spell check language is English, Spanish, Finnish or Danish, it is the whole text of the field, as you type. So click Cancel in that window.
If enhanced spell check is already on, turn it off in the same menu: right-click in a text field, open Spell check and click Use enhanced spell check to clear the check mark. The Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages switch turns it off too, together with all spell checking. Sverk's settings have no switch of its own for it, although the window says you can change it in settings.
