AI chat

Sverk for Windows · Updated October 27, 2026

The AI chat in Sverk is the page of Google Search's AI Mode in the window's right side panel. Google answers, not Sverk: the panel opens Google's page directly, and your questions go from the browser straight to Google. Sverk gives the page a place next to the site, buttons to call it up and a list of chats on your computer.

Opening it

There are four ways to open the chat:

  • the AI chat button with the sparkle on the toolbar, or Ctrl+Shift+Space, opens and closes the panel;
  • the Google AI button on the new tab opens the same page in a tab;
  • New AI chat in the menu of the Sverk icon on the taskbar (right-click the icon) brings Sverk to the front with a new chat, and starts it if it is not running;
  • the AI button over all windows, if you turned it on — see below.

You can unpin the toolbar button: Unpin from toolbar in the panel's header. It does not come back by itself: open the panel with Ctrl+Shift+Space and press Pin to toolbar there.

The panel

The panel remembers its conversation: close it and open it again, and the conversation is there; an answer still being written gets finished. A new window starts a new chat.

In the panel's header, Open in new tab moves the conversation into a tab, scroll position and all. The More menu (⋮) has New chat, AI chats with recent conversations, AI button over all windows and AI settings….

Links in the answers — sources, an ordinary search, maps — open as a new tab next to the current one, in its space. Google's sign-in and consent pages stay in the panel.

In an Incognito window the panel uses Incognito's data, and conversations do not go into the list of chats.

The AI button over all windows

A round button at the edge of the screen opens the AI chat from any program, even when Sverk's windows are minimised. It hides when a Sverk window is in front (that has a button of its own), when a program fills the screen — a game, a video, a presentation — and when Sverk has no ordinary window open.

The button does not appear by itself: the first time you open the panel, Sverk asks whether to show it — Show or No, thanks.

You can drag the button: it sticks to the nearest edge or corner of the screen and remembers its place on each monitor. A click brings forward the Sverk window you used last and opens the panel in it. Its right-click menu has New chat, AI chats and Remove the button.

What Google sees

Everything you write in the chat, and the whole conversation, goes to Google: it is Google's service, and Google handles it under its own rules. Like any site, Google also sees your IP address.

The panel uses the same cookies as your tabs. If you signed in to a Google account on Google's site in Sverk, Google sees that too.

Sverk's server does not receive the conversation. What leaves the computer, and for whom, is listed in the privacy policy.

The list of chats and history

The last 30 conversations are in AI chats — in the menus of the panel and of the button over windows, each under its first question. The list stays on this computer only: it holds the first question, the conversation's address and the time. Conversations in the panel and in tabs go into this list, but not into the browser history.

To clear the list: Settings → AI chat → Clear the list. It is also cleared when you delete the whole browser history, for all time.

Settings, and turning the button off

Settings → AI chat opens the chrome://sverk/ai page in a new tab. It has the AI button over all windows switch, Button opacity, % from 25 to 100 while the button is on, and the list of chats.

To turn the button over windows off, use any of three: the switch on that page, Remove the button in its right-click menu, or the AI button over all windows tick in the panel's More menu. To turn it back on, use that page or the panel's More menu.
