Spaces

Sverk for Windows · Updated October 27, 2026

A space is a set of tabs with its own name and colour: “Work”, “Study”, “Home”. The window shows the tabs of one space; the rest wait. In Sverk, spaces replace tab groups. A protected space goes further: a window of its own, with its own sign-ins to sites, history and passwords.

The switcher

The switcher sits at the start of the tab strip, next to the tab search button, and shows even before you have any spaces. It reads the open space's name on its colour, or All tabs. Its menu shows how many tabs each space holds and ticks the open one.

With the tabs at the side (Settings → Appearance → Tab position), spaces are circles at the bottom of the tab strip, each in its colour with the first letter of its name. One click switches; “+” makes a new space.

All tabs shows everything open in the window as one list. Pinned tabs show in every space.

Making a space and sorting tabs

New space in the switcher's menu makes a space with one new tab and asks for its name and colour straight away.

A tab moves through its menu (right-click the tab): Move tab to new space, Move tab to space and Remove from space; a removed tab shows only in All tabs. Dragging in All tabs changes the order, not the space.

New tabs — Ctrl+T, links, links from other programs — open in the current space. Open a tab of another space, through tab search for instance, and the window switches to its space.

Tabs of other spaces are not closed: Sverk pauses them, and they carry on where they were. A tab playing sound or holding a call, and a site allowed to send notifications, are not paused.

Name, colour and window

Name and color “Work” in the switcher's menu opens the editor: the name, eight colours, New tab in space and Move space to new window. Until it has a name, a space is called after its first tab.

Each window has its own spaces. They are kept with the open tabs and come back after a restart when Sverk reopens your tabs — its default: Settings → On startup → Continue where you left off.

Deleting

Closing a space's last tab does not delete the space: a new tab takes its place. A space is only deleted on purpose: open it and choose Delete space… in the switcher's menu. Sverk asks, for example: Delete “Work” and 3 tabs? Deleting is final: the tabs close, and Ctrl+Shift+T does not bring them back.

Protected space

A protected space opens in a window of its own, like Incognito, but forgets nothing. It has its own sign-ins to sites, cookies, history, cache, passwords, autofill and site permissions, and all of it stays after a restart. Use it for two accounts of one site at once, for work apart from home, for your bank and Gosuslugi. Underneath, it is a separate Sverk profile, hidden from the list of profiles.

Extensions do not come along, except the electronic signature plug-ins you already have installed and turned on: CryptoPro, Gosplugin, Rutoken, Kontur.Plugin and others. The Sverk Shield blocker and the AI chat work there too, the chat with a list of its own. A tab cannot move from an ordinary window into a protected space — open the site there.

A protected space keeps data and extensions apart, but it does not protect against viruses on the computer.

Making and opening a protected space

Choose New protected space in the switcher's menu or in the main menu (⋮), under New Incognito window; with the tabs at the side, right-click “+”. Give it a name and a colour and press Create.

In the switcher's menu, protected spaces come under the ordinary ones, with a lock. The one you pick comes to the front. A closed one opens again, with its previous tabs if Settings → On startup → Continue where you left off is chosen; with that setting, spaces' windows also come back after a restart. Links from other programs open in the main window.

On the taskbar, a protected space has its own Sverk icon with a lock. You can pin it: the pinned button is called “<space name> - Sverk” and opens that space directly.

Deleting a protected space

Closing its window does not delete the space: it stays in the switcher. To delete it, open the space's window and choose Delete space… in the switcher's menu. Sverk asks: Delete “Bank” with all its sign-ins, history and passwords? This can't be undone. After Delete, its windows close, its data is wiped, and its list of recent pages leaves the taskbar.

If you delete your main Sverk profile, its protected spaces are deleted with it.
