Sverk for Windows · Updated October 27, 2026

Sverk saves downloaded files to your Downloads folder and keeps their list on the computer. Below is where to find them, why Sverk stops some downloads, how to keep a file you trust, and what the errors mean.

Where downloaded files go

Files go to the Windows Downloads folder. To choose another, go to Settings → Downloads → Location → Change; the same page has Ask where to save each file before downloading and Show downloads when they're done.

While a file downloads, and for an hour after the last download, a Downloads button sits to the right of the address bar. It opens the Recent download history panel: open a file or show it in its folder from there, and Full download history opens the Download history page (chrome://downloads). Ctrl+J or the menu ⋮ → Downloads get you there too.

Delete from history in a file's menu removes its entry from the list; the file itself stays in the folder.

Why Sverk blocks a download

Sverk has no Google Safe Browsing: files are not checked against Google's lists, and nothing about your downloads goes to Google or to us. Sverk itself stops a download, depending on how the file arrived and what kind of file it is.

A file over an insecure connection

If the file arrives over plain HTTP — even from an address you typed — or the link to it is on a page without HTTPS, it may have been tampered with on the way. The downloads panel says Insecure download blocked, and the details, This site isn't using a secure connection and the file may have been tampered with. Images, music, video and plain text (.txt, .csv) get through without a warning — unless Always use secure connections is set to Warns you for insecure public & private sites.

If the link to an HTTP file is on a secure page, Sverk cancels the download silently: it does not appear in the list at all. If you trust the file, right-click the link and choose Save link as...: Sverk then shows the same warning and lets you keep the file.

Programs and scripts

Files that run on Windows — .exe, .msi, .bat, .cmd, .ps1, .js, .vbs and others — Sverk downloads without a question only if you typed the file's address yourself, chose where to save it, or clicked a link on a site you visited before today. Otherwise the panel says Unverified download blocked, explaining This file can't be verified because Safe Browsing is off. The Turn on Safe Browsing link under the explanation opens the security settings, but it cannot be turned on there — the Safety Check article says why.

Keeping a blocked file

Click the file in the downloads panel and choose Download insecure file or Download unverified file. The same is on the Download history page, in the file's ⋮ menu. Delete from history deletes a blocked file.

Keep a program only if you know where it comes from — best from its developer's page, open over HTTPS.

When a file fails to download

For a failed download, the panel names the reason. The common ones:

  • Check internet connection — the connection dropped or the server stopped answering. Click Resume if it is there: Sverk continues from where it stopped. Otherwise, Try again.
  • Site wasn’t available — the server did not answer or answered with an error. Try again later.
  • File wasn’t available on site — the file is no longer at that link, the link has expired, or the site gives the file only after you sign in. Open the page again, sign in if needed, and click the link once more.
  • Out of storage space — the disk is full. Free some space or choose another folder for downloads.
  • Needs permission to download — Sverk may not write to the chosen folder. Choose another one.
  • File name or location is too long — save the file under a shorter name or to another folder.
  • Couldn’t finish download — the browser closed, or the server sent less than it promised. Click Resume or Try again.
  • Virus detected — after a download Windows checks the file with the antivirus, which found a threat and removed the file.

Video and sound from a page

Sverk saves a page's video or sound with Sverk Shield: when there is something to save, its icon appears in the address bar. The finished file lands in the same folder and the same download list as any other. More in Saving video and sound.
